Vada Pav

Vada Pav a favourite street food of all age groups......


Ingredients :

  • Potatoes 4nos
  • Pav 6 nos
  • Ginger small piece
  • Garlic 2 florets
  • Corriender leaves finely chopped
  • curry leaves few leaves
  • Green chillis 3 nos
  • Onions 1 no (optional)
  • Sev or farsan 1 cup (optional)

Note : With chutney if you add some chopped onion & sev or farsan it gives more taste to vada pav.

  • Besan (gramflour) 2 cups
  • Mustard seeds 1tsp
  • Haldi 1tsp
  • Hing (asafotida) a pinch
  • Salt to taste
  • oil to deep fry the vadas

Chutneys :

  • Green chutney
  • Tamarind chutney
  • Red garlic chutney

Method :

1. Boil potatoes and mash them well. Grate ginger, thin slices of garlic, chop green chillis & corriender leaves finely.
2. In a small kadhai or pan heat little oil (1 tsp) add mustard seeds. Allow them to crackle.
3. Add hing to it. Add ginger, garlic, curry leaves, green chillies & haldi. Saute for 5mins.
4. Pour this on the mashed potatoes. Add salt & finely chopped corriender leaves and mix well. The filling is ready.
5. In a small container take the besan. Add pinch of red chilli powder, salt and some water. Make a semi thick batter.
6. Make the ball of the potato mixture and deep them in the besan batter and coat them well.
7. Deep fry till light golden brown.
8. Cut the pav into half but not completely.
9. Apply the chutneys, onion and some sev or farsan. Place the vada on it and press lightly.
10. Serve hot with chai.
11. Enjoy!
