South Indian Chutney's

These chutney are accompanied by Idli Sambhar, Masala dosa and other variety of dosa, Medu wada and other South Indian dishes.

  • Chutney 1.

Ingredients :

Coconut                           1/2 ( finely grated)
Chana dal                         1/2 tsp
Green chillis                      3-4 nos
Whole red chilli                 3-4 nos
Ginger                               a small piece
Corriender leaves              2 springs
Salt                                   to taste
Urad dal                            1/2 tsp

For tempering (for tadka) :

Chana dal                          1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds                   1/2 tsp
Oil                                     1 tsp
Curry leaves                       3 nos
Whole red chillis                 2 nos
Tamarind                            little

Method :

1. Mix all the ingredients together and grind them well.
2. Heat oil add mustard seeds allow them to crackle. Add channa dal. urad dal, add curry leaves, red chillis and tamarind when the dals are light brown.
3. Add salt and mix well.
4. Serve with South Indian dishes.
5. Enjoy!

  • Chutney 2.

Ingredients :

Curd                                  1/2 cup
Coconut                             1/2
Green chillis                        6 nos
Whole red chillis                  3 nos
Corriender leaves                6 spriges
Cumin seeds                        1/2 tsp
Salt                                     to taste

For Tempring ( for tadka)

Oil                                        1 tsp
Mustard seeds                       1/2 tsp
Curry leaves                          few


1. Grind together all the ingredients except urad dal.
2. Mix with curd and add urad dal
3. Temper with mustard seeds and curry leaves.
4. Serve with any South Indian dish.
5. Enjoy!
