Masala Pav

Masala Pav is a chat dish served in Mumbai restaurants or road side sellers. It is quick to make and tastes delicious. Its mixture of vegetables and masalas cooked in butter. Pav are rolled and filled in with this special vegetable masala mixture.
Its a great evening snack.



Ingredients :


4 Pav
1/2 cup chopped capsicum
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
1 mashed potato
1 tsp lemon juice
2 tsp garlic paste
1/2 tsp ginger paste
Finely chopped fresh coriander leaves
1 1/2 tsp pav bhaji masala
1/2 tsp red chili powder
2 tbsp Amul butter
Salt to taste

Tip: I would recommend MDH or Badshaah Masala brand.


For Garnishing

Finely chopped onions, fresh coriander leaves and butter.

Method :


Preparation of vegetable masala: 
1. In a pan heat 2 tsp of butter. Saute ginger-garlic paste, add chopped onions and saute till translucent.
2. Add red chilli powder, pav bhaji masala and mix well. 
3. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until soft. Mash them little when soft.
4. Add kasuri methi, capsicum and mashed potatoes, mix well.
5. Add till water,salt and chopped coriander leaves and mix well. Cook for 5 minutes and keep aside.

The vegetable masala is ready


Preparation of the dish :
1. Cut the pav from 3 sides to open wide. In one  pan i am mking 2 numbers of pav together. If more pav are to be made together increase the proportion of the below mention masala.
2. Heat butter in a non stick pan, add 2 tsp of the vegetable masala and add 3-4 tsp of water mix well. As shown in below picture.


3. Open the pav and place them on the pan to absorb the masala. As shown in the below picture.



4. Now turn the pav upside down and fill the masala. As shown in the below picture.




5. Add some chopped onions and press the slightly and shallow fry with butter from both the side and serve hot.
