Dhabe wali Kali Dal

The dhaba style dal with punjabi tadka.
Ingredients :

  • 1 1/2 cup black spilt urad dal
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 no chopped tomato
  • 1 no chopped onion
  • 2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 no green chilli chopped in half
  • Freshly chopped corriender leaves
  • Lime juice to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp Oil 

Punjabi Masala : I have used freshly made punjabi masala which gives the dal authentic taste.

  • 1 tbsp Cumin seeds
  • 4 cloves
  • Small cinnamon stick
  • 1 1/2 tbsp corriender seeds
  • 1 1/2 tsp fennel seeds
  • 1 tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp javitri/mace powder
  • Pinch of turmeric
  • Salt to taste
  • Dry roast all the ingredients under punjabi masala and grind in to a fine powder.

Method :

1. Pressure cook the dal till well done.
2. Heat oil in the pan add cumin seeds and allow it to crackle.
3. Add ginger-garlic paste and green chilli and saute for a minute.
4. Add onion and turmeric powder, saute till translucent.
5. Now add tomatoes and let it cook till well done.
6. Add dal and water to right consistency and mix well.
7. Now sprinkle the punjabi masala  as per taste and mix well.
8. Let the dal boil for some time. Add lemon juice.

Before serving : Heat 2 tbsp ghee add cumin seeds and dry red chillis. Pour this tadka on the dal.









9. Serve with jeera rice and roti.
