Panchamel Dal & Bati

Dal Bati is a very popular dish in Rajasthan India. The complete meal is Dal Bati & Churma. Today I will be sharing the Dal Bati recipe. I have cooked Panchamel Dal to make the dish more nutritive. But one can use toor dal only for the dish. Panchamel dal is the mixture of 5 different types of dals cooked together.
Bati is made from wheat flour is semi hard. Its accompanied with ghee/ butter and dal.
Ingredients for Panchamel Dal :
  • 1/4 cup Toor dal
  • 1/4 cup Channa dal
  • 1/4 cup Skinless Masoor dal 
  • 1/4 cup Spilt Green urad dal
  • 1/2 cup Spilt Black urad dal
  • 2 small tomatoes finely chopped
  • 1 tsp Ginger paste
  • 1 no finley chopped green chilli
  • few curry leaves
  • Fresh corriender leaves for garnishing
  • 2 dry red chilli
  • 1 inch cinnamon stick
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 3 cloves
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 2 green cardamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp corriender powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 11/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • Pinch of Asafotida
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil 2 tbsp
Ingredients for Bati :
  • 2 cups Wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup ghee
  • Salt to taste
  • Pinch of baking powder 
Method for Panchamel Dal :

1. In a cooker mix all the dals add turmeric powder and salt. Pressure cook the dal till well done.
2. Heat oil in a pan add cumin seeds and allow it to crackle. Add asafotida.3. Add cloves, green cardamon, bay leaves, cinamon stick, dry red chilli, ginger paste & grenn chilli. Saute for a minute.4. Add chopped tomatoes and saute till half done.5. Add all the powder spices and cook the masala till well done.6. Add the cooked dal and water. Mix well.7. Add salt and let the dal boil for some time.8. Garnish with fresh corriender leaves.


Method for Bati :

1. Pre heat the oven to 200 c. In a large bowl mix all the ingredients together. Mix well and knead into a stiff dough as shown in the picture.
2. Make lemon size balls and flaten a little. Apply little ghee on the baking tray and place the batis.
3. Bake the batis till light golden brown.
Serving Dal Bati :

1.In a plate arrange the bati. Add little ghee on it. and a bowl of dal. I have served dal bati with homemade mirch ka achaar. Serve hot.
2.Crush the bati and add dal, mix and relish it.
