Aap Ki Rasoi Se / From your Kitchen : Whole Wheat Pancakes - Recipe by Apoorva Patwardhan

Well generally whole wheat versions of delicacies like pancakes just tastes terrible, but try these pancakes and you won't miss the fluffiness of regular pancakes and tastes good too.


Ingredients :

  • 1 cup milk ( any type of milk will do or you can use buttermilk)
  • 1 tbsp vinegar apple cider or white vinegar to curdle milk or if you are using buttermilk you do not need vinegar
  • 1 cup whole wheat bread flour (its better to use whole wheat bread flour and not the roti atta, so if you use roti atta the pancakes will be flat not fluffy)
  • 2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4th tsp baking soda
  • 1/4th tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp melted butter ( if you don't want to use butter, you can use apple sauce, pancakes will be equally tasty and moist

Makes : 6 medium size pancakes

Method :

1. Mix milk and vinegar and keep aside for 5 mins to curdle. ( skip this step if you are using buttermilk)
2. Combine all dry ingredients which is flour, baking powder,  baking soda, salt and sugar.
3. You can preheat your griddle now.
4. If milk is curdled then add egg and butter or apple sauce in milk and mix well.
5. Combine all wet ingredients into dry ingredients until just combined and do not over mix. Some lumps here and there are ok.
6. Let the batter rest for 5 min.
7. Grease the griddle and start making pancakes.
8. When bubbles start appearing on it then flip them untill golden brown.
9. Serve them with mapel syrup or butter with fuits or fresh whipped cream.  

10. Enjoy your breakfast !
